Putting sustainable tourism at the forefront

The Problem

G&A was contracted to develop a tourism development strategy, compelling destination brand and Implementation plan for the Noord Commewijne tourism region of Suriname, along with a destination brand concept and identity that would be used to market the region internationally. The scope of services provided by G&A included:

  1. Research, Discovery, Data Collection & Auditing:
    The G&A team conducted research and discovery through extensive international destination brand benchmarking, data intelligence, a series of stakeholder consultations and tourism development/destination brand workshops to uncover the strengths, constraints and opportunities for Noord Commewijne. 

  2. Formulating a sustainable Tourism Sector Development Strategy:
    G&A devised a product development strategy predicated on a tourism sustainability model. This allowed for establishing a unique selling proposition to effectively position the destination brand and strategy that would achieve the desired strategic outcomes.  The implementation plan involved source market development and establishing a robust pipeline to attract travellers to the destination and encouraging repeat long-stay visits to Noord Commewijne.

  3. Destination Brand Strategy:
    The G&A team also developed a compelling destination brand strategy which was informed by key insights that aptly represented the Noord Commewijne region and its attributes, while remaining relevant to key target audiences and distinctive relative to competitors.

  4. Brand Training and Facilitation:
    Several destination brand training sessions were facilitated by the G&A brand team with the brand stewards and custodians of the destination brand. 

  5. Global Destination Marketing Strategy: 
    The final phase of the process was compiling and distilling research findings, stakeholder insights and learnings from training sessions to formulate a robust global destination marketing programme and implementation plan.
